Artist Statement

As an artist, my work navigates the intricate relationships between tradition, faith, and identity. While my primary focus lies in painting, I approach each project with an openness to the medium that best serves the message. Sculpture, photography, and mixed media often become integral to my process, as I believe that each artwork itself dictates the form it needs to take to fully convey its narrative.

My creative practice delves deeply into the complexities of the Catholic Church in Ireland, exploring its historical and cultural influence on women and examining my own evolving relationship with religion. Through my art, I seek to create a dialogue about the interplay between personal experience and broader societal structures, offering space for reflection, connection, and sometimes, confrontation.

Inspired by the layered symbolism of religious iconography, I draw upon textures, forms, and imagery that resonate with both the beauty and tension inherent in these themes. Whether it’s the intricate folds of a sculptural piece or the stark contrast of light and shadow in a photograph, my work aims to evoke a visceral response, encouraging viewers to consider the multifaceted role of faith and tradition in shaping identity.

At the heart of my practice is a dedication to storytelling—a commitment to exploring the interplay of memory, belief, and lived experience. My work is not just about examining the past but also about challenging its relevance in the present, always striving to create pieces that are as thought-provoking as they are visually engaging.
